Schedule Instagram posts
Connect an Instagram business or creator account and schedule captioned posts, with the media rule checked before the post is ever queued.
Instagram publishes media with a caption, never a caption alone
That is a hard rule on Instagram’s side rather than a preference on ours, and it is a common way a cross-posted schedule breaks: the text is fine everywhere else, so nobody notices Instagram was going to reject it until the morning it fires.
postfast checks it at compose time. An Instagram target with no media is a blocking finding — the post cannot be scheduled, the rule is named, and the fix is obvious.
Connection is through the Instagram API with Instagram Login, which talks to Instagram directly. There is no Facebook Page to link first.
What Instagram accepts in one post
Read from the same capability table the composer warns from and the publisher builds payloads from. postfast's own bound of 5,000 characters and 4 media items applies on top, whichever is tighter.
- Characters
- 2,200 per post.
- Media items
- 10 per post on Instagram's side; postfast accepts 4.
- Media required
- Yes. Instagram publishes media with a caption, never a caption alone.
- Threads
- Not available. Instagram has no self-reply, so a thread cannot be chained here — Publish Guard blocks a thread aimed at it rather than publishing the first part alone.
- Cost per post
- Nothing. The platform charges no API fee for publishing.
- Scheduling
- postfast holds the post and hands it over at the moment it is due, so a post can be scheduled a minute out or a year out.
How connecting works
- Instagram Login, directly. A business or creator account authorises postfast on Instagram’s own consent screen. No Facebook Page linking step.
- Business and creator accounts only. Instagram’s publishing API does not serve personal accounts. Switching an account to a professional one is free and is done in Instagram’s settings.
- Tokens are sealed at rest. Encrypted under the application secret, never returned by any endpoint.
- Meta’s deletion callback reaches it. Instagram is covered by the same Meta data-deletion endpoint as Threads and Facebook.
What you get
The media rule, enforced early
A caption-only Instagram target is refused at compose time rather than failing at the scheduled minute.
Long captions, counted honestly
Instagram takes 2,200 characters. When Instagram is one target among several, the guard counts against the tightest of the networks you selected and names which one is over.
No thread promises
Instagram has no self-reply, so postfast refuses a thread aimed at it rather than silently publishing only the first part.
Free per post
Nothing about publishing to Instagram is metered.
Common questions
- Can I schedule Instagram posts from a personal account?
- No — Instagram’s publishing API serves business and creator accounts only. Switching is free and takes a minute in Instagram’s own settings.
- Do I need a Facebook Page to connect Instagram?
- No. postfast uses the Instagram API with Instagram Login, which talks to Instagram directly rather than reaching it through a linked Page.
- Can postfast post an Instagram caption with no image?
- No, and neither can anything else — Instagram refuses it. postfast blocks it at compose time so you find out while you are writing rather than after the schedule fires.
