How this works
- The link detector is the product’s own. This page imports the same function postfast’s meter uses, so what it charges you is what it says here. A second implementation would quote one price and bill another.
- It over-detects on purpose. A bare host in the middle of a sentence — example.com — is a link on X, and it is priced as one. An over-detection is visible and arguable; an under-detection is a bill nobody saw coming.
- The prices are X’s. $0.010 for a plain post and $0.200 for a post containing a URL — twenty times more, which is X's ratio and not one anybody chose.
- postfast bills in credits, not dollars. 1 credit for a plain post, 20 for a post with a link — the same ratio, passed through. Your plan includes a monthly allowance and running out stops X publishing rather than producing a charge.
- Every other network is free. X is the only network postfast publishes to whose API charges per post, which is why it is the only one metered.
Common questions
- How much does the X API cost per post?
- X charges $0.010 to create a post and $0.200 when the post contains a URL — twenty times more. Those are per-post charges on top of whatever API tier you are on.
- Why does a link make a post twenty times more expensive?
- That is X’s pricing rather than anybody’s interpretation of it. postfast passes the ratio through into credits instead of averaging it, so people who do not post links are not subsidising people who do.
- Does a link in a thread reply cost extra?
- Yes. Every part of a thread is its own created post, priced on its own body. Moving a link into a reply does not make it cheaper — it makes that reply cost twenty instead of one.
- Do I need my own X API subscription to use postfast?
- No. postfast publishes through its own X app and meters the cost in credits included with your plan. Attaching your own X app is an option, not a requirement.
